|Huge group show at THIS a new gallery space in Los Angeles fronted by some Fecal Face friends. Michael C. Hsiung investigates.|
THIS, LOS ANGELES Gallery
5906 N. Figueroa St. Los Angeles, CA 90042.
We headed over to check out the first opening show of THIS, Los Angeles. I had a feeling it was going to be a big crowded show because of the line up of artists, but I really didn't think I'd walk into this madness! It was super fun running into folks I don't usually see. I chatted with Travis Millard for a bit about ping pong.
We made all the way into the corner to see some art. Here's the view.
Managed to get some photos of the art.
"My scared look" with friend Tambi.
Imari from http://www.mcdermottmanagement.com/, Phil and friend.
Corner Photograph of Magdalena Wosinska, Scott Martin and Ethan Fowler in Death makeup at gas station by Magdalena Wosinska.
Pearl C. Hsiung with friend Jaime.
We were lucky enough to find out that Sean Mcgaughey's studio was located pretty much above the gallery, so we snuck in for a peek.
Sean and Hovin getting really happy.
Sean pulled out some really awesome pieces he was working on and/or finished. This was a giant piece that has so much detail.
Close up detail of the madness.
This is what happens to blue painter's tape in Sean's studio.
A work in progress.
Sean showed us some more large works and even gave us all these awesome letterpress prints!
We then headed to Little Cave for some drinks and I was stressin' on how to keep my nice letterpress print from Sean in good shape.
Photograph of my letterpress print by Sean Mcgaughey. Still in good shape.
The rest of the evening looked something like this. . . Thanks for a great opening THIS, LA.
